What is the Discount Calculator?
The Discount Calculator instantly works out how much a discounted item costs and how much you save, whenever a store or website advertises a percentage off. Enter the original price and the discount percentage, and the sale price and your savings appear as you type — useful for comparing sale prices, checking a cashier's math, or figuring out if a "deal" is actually worth it.
How to Use the Discount Calculator
- Enter the original price of the item before any discount.
- Enter the discount percentage being offered (e.g. 20 for 20% off).
- Read the result — the final sale price, the amount you save, and the original price for reference.
Discount Formula
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount % ÷ 100)
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
Example Calculation
A jacket priced at $200 is on sale with 25% off. The discount amount is $200 × 0.25 = $50, so the final sale price is $200 − $50 = $150. You save $50 off the original price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage (as a decimal) to get the amount saved, then subtract that from the original price to get the final price. For example, $50 at 10% off: $50 × 0.10 = $5 saved, so the final price is $45.
This calculator applies one discount at a time. For stacked discounts (e.g. 20% off, then an extra 10% off), run the calculation twice — apply the first discount, then use the resulting final price as the "Original Price" for the second discount. Stacked percentages are not simply additive.
No, this calculator only applies the discount to the listed price. Sales tax, if applicable in your area, is typically calculated on the discounted price afterward, depending on local tax rules.
Results are estimates for quick reference, not a substitute for the final price shown at checkout.
