What is the GST Calculator?

The GST Calculator is a free tool for working out Goods and Services Tax on any amount. You can either add GST on top of a base price, or work backwards from a GST-inclusive price to find the original amount. This calculator uses India's GST structure (CGST, SGST and IGST) — it is not applicable to VAT, sales tax or GST systems in other countries.

How to Use the GST Calculator

  1. Enter the amount you want to calculate GST on.
  2. Select a GST rate — choose 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, or enter a custom rate.
  3. Choose the transaction type — Intra-state (CGST + SGST) or Inter-state (IGST).
  4. Read the result — the GST amount and total are calculated instantly as you type.

GST rates and slabs are set by the Indian government and can change. Always confirm the current rate for your product or service before filing returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

GST Exclusive: You add GST on top of a base price. For example, ₹1,000 plus 18% GST = ₹1,180 total.
GST Inclusive: The GST is already included in the total price. For example, if ₹1,180 already includes 18% GST, the original base amount is ₹1,000.

CGST (Central GST): The Central Government's share.
SGST (State GST): The State Government's share.
IGST (Integrated GST): Charged when goods or services move between states.

Intra-state transactions split the tax equally between CGST and SGST. Inter-state transactions charge IGST only.

The calculation follows the standard GST formula and rounds results to 2 decimal places. It's intended for quick estimates — for tax filing, always confirm figures against official GST records.
