Estimate a healthy target weight range for your height

What is the Ideal Weight Calculator?
This calculator estimates a healthy target body weight using two established methods: the Devine formula (widely used in clinical settings, originally to calculate medication dosing) and a healthy weight range based on a normal BMI (18.5–24.9) for your height. Together they give a realistic target range rather than a single "perfect" number.
How to Use the Ideal Weight Calculator
- Select your gender and choose metric or imperial units.
- Enter your height.
- Read both estimates — the Devine formula result and the healthy BMI-based range.
The Devine Formula
Men: Ideal Weight (kg) = 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60)
Women: Ideal Weight (kg) = 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60)
Women: Ideal Weight (kg) = 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60)
This formula was developed in 1974 for medical dosing calculations and has since become a common reference point for a "typical" healthy weight, though it doesn't account for body frame or muscle mass.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not really — healthy weight varies by frame size, muscle mass, age and overall health. Treat both results as a general reference range, not a strict target.
The Devine formula gives a single reference figure, while the BMI-based range shows the full span of weights considered "normal" BMI for your height. Both are estimates — if they differ, the BMI range is generally the more flexible guide.
It can be a helpful starting reference, but a doctor or dietitian can give you a target that accounts for your full health picture, not just height and gender.
